Join cake decorator and baker Kathleen Luzzi as you discover the creativity of adorning cakes with amazing fondant. Have fun learning the techniques and fundamentals of fondant artistry, including enrobing your cake and creating fondant bows, flowers, ribbons and figures. Be ready to impress your friends. You will take home your cake and a set of basic fondant modeling tools.

Urban Farming for the City Dweller

Want to grow some of your own food in your own backyard? What do you need to know about city ordinances? Deciding what to grow? Providing for the growing needs of your plants? Novel places to grow vegetables when space is limited? Composting? Raising animals in the city? Preserving food when the harvest is abundant? Instructor Carol Faust will share resources & her experience doing just that for 40+ years with the Faust Family Farm in Oakdale.

Haunted Halloween Mansion

Get your Ghoulie on this year and learn how to make a spooky Halloween Haunted Mansion. Taught by Kathleen Luzzi, owner of well-known Kathys Creative Kakes in San Mateo. You will be provided with a fresh baked gingerbread house with some magic spells and eye of newt mixed in so that you can learn how to expertly decorate a haunted edible centerpiece that will make you the envy of all of Transylvania. You will learn to make all of the fondant decorative additions and take a super creepy haunted house home with you that night…if you dare!

Introduction to Wine
Want to know why your Chardonnay tastes buttery and how to select the right bottle for your Salmon Fillet? Learn everything you need to know about the world of wine with a Ritz-Carlton Sommelier. Topics include wine tasting, the logic behind wine and food pairing, the science of wine making, French wine history, and wine service. Tasting will include two wine samples.
Materials Fee: $20 payable to instructor in class.

Wine Tasting 
Students will delve into the Court of Master Sommelier's deductive tasting method and tasting grid. Taste seven wines (including one blind) as you expand your descriptor vocabulary and become fluent in linking your descriptions to grape varieties, regions, age-ability, and appropriate food pairings. 
Materials Fee: $20 payable to instructor in class.
