8th and 9th grade Literature
To prepare for English Literature classes in high school, students will be taught to recognize and analyze literary devices such as symbolism, metaphors, similes, alliteration, personification, foreshadowing, and other devices. Course readings will cover short stories and poetry. Students will participate in regular class discussions and the socratic seminar discussion format. The final course project will be a literary analysis essay about a short story or poem, developed during class time with support from the instructor and peer feedback.
