Peninsula Parks & Trails
Join instructor and guide Tom Taber for a fun and informative course that combines an in-class lecture with weekend field trips. Learn about flora, fauna, geology, wildflowers, and history as you discover the Peninsula's interesting scenic parks and trails. Each excursion will involve walking 4.5-6.5 miles in mountainous terrain. We will stop frequently to examine natural and historical features and to sample tasty treats made from native edible plants. We will explore old-growth redwoods and beautiful views at Sam McDonald County Park; spectacular displays of wildflowers at Edgewood County Park; and beautiful views and a pond at Long Ridge Open Space.
This tour requires moderate physical activity. You should be able to walk on steep mountainous terrain. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring lunch and water. Layered clothing is recommended. No pets allowed.
